The Puppet, called The Marionette until the official name was confirmed, is a gift-giving animatronic in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza that appears throughout the official Five Nights at Freddy's series and in the The Return to Freddy's Saga.

The Puppet first appears in The Return to Freddy's Classic, as the main antagonist of the game and the responsable for the animatronics trying to kill the player. The Puppet in this game, is being used by BFP as his temporal "tomb", since his original one, Lockjaw, was unaccesible for him during that time.

Its appearance was reused from Five Nights at Freddy's 2. The Puppet has a white face with black, hollow eyes (aside from its jumpscare and a small in-game cutscene, in which it gains small, white pupils). Its face is similar to that of a Pierrot, with rosy red cheeks, purple stripes that stretch from the bottom of its eyes to the top of its mouth, and red lipstick painted on in an exaggerated pucker.

Its body is somewhat reminiscent of a sock monkey's, with its round, oblong shape, thin waist, three white buttons, rounded hands that feature three spindly fingers each, and white stripes on the wrists and ankles, along with a thin, long neck. It has no feet, but its legs are tapered to a point. It has neither hair nor head accessories.

In the cancelled Major Update for 2018, The Puppet's design was drastically changed. He is a heavily detailed tall humanoid animatronic made out of, what seems to be, a plastic casting. His whole body is now more articulated and colored in a glossy cloudish black color with several straight purple stripes on them. It wears a shiny bowtie and three big black buttons on its chest.

The Puppet is first active on Night 1 and onwords, and starts in the Party Room. It will then move to the Dining Area, and to the Show Stage, where it will then resurrect Bonnie (Freddy Fazbear the second time, and Chica the third time) as an agressive machine before going to the East Hall. It will then appear in the East Hall Corner before appearing in your Security Office. If the player doesn't put on the Freddy Mask on time, it will jumpscare the player.

  • Unlike FNaF 2, the player doesn't actually have to wind up the Music Box to keep The Puppet at bay, in this game The Puppet now acts like a normal animatronic.
  • The Music Box's melody comes from this fan-made Slenderman song:
  • The Puppet and its mechanics are likely inspired by the popular Jack-in-the-box children's toy, due to the fact that it comes from a box, music precedes its attack, and it launches itself to attack.
    • The Puppet was meant to be given an original model in the Major Update of TRTF Classic of 2016 along with a graphical overhaul to the game altogether, until these were cancelled.
    • However on 2018 when the Major Updates were uncancelled, BFPFilms424/Tyler said in a private conversation with ShaneTheBarbarian, the only known modeller of the updates, that he was going to use the TRTF: Chapter One animatronic models and some other new assets for TRTF Classic's graphics.[1]

The Puppet makes a reappearance in The Return to Freddy's 2 as a major antagonist. It is an recently introduced mechanical marionette who serves as a gift-giving animatronic at the newly reopened Fredbear's Family Diner, obtaining the position of Sugar and Kitty FazCat. The Puppet tends to hide in it's music box at Party Room 2, but usually would come out and entertain children. Surprisingly it is possessed by BFP who is responsible for Puppet's aggressive behavior during the night, due to his fury at not being able to find someone to free him from his inescapable curse: being trapped inside the Frankburt suit.

Like the rest of the animatronics from the second game, the Puppet finally obtained an original model. It appears just like its appearance in Five Nights at Freddy's 2 once again, except its colors appear to be brighter and he is missing white stripes on its limbs. His face also appears to look slightly crumpled, like paper.

The Puppet is first active on Night 1 onward, but will only function if the player does not wind the music box in time in Party Room 2 similar to its original FNAF2 counterpart. Each night the Puppet's AI will go higher which fastens the pace of the music box counter going empty. Once the counter is empty, the Puppet will jumpscare the player resulting in a game over.

  • Strangely, the gift box is absent from the Party Room 2.
  • When he jumpscares the player, it seems that he goes a bit to the right and then return to its actual position when he jumpscares the player. This is most likely an animation error.
    • Other animatronics can jumpscare the player in the same way as Puppet does, but they doesn't have this error.
  • In the game files, there are images of its TRTF Classic/FNAF2 counterpart.
  • The Puppet is one of the antagonists in The Return to Freddy's 2 who doesn't have teeth.
  • The Puppet is the only animatronic that doesn't appear in the hallway. Not including Hallucinations.
  • It is unknown what happened to the Puppet, but it could've been scrapped for parts or sold to another location to never to be seen again.
    • This theory also goes for Dug as he never reappears ever again.
  • If the Puppet's AI is set higher, the music box will need to be re-winded more often.
  • The Puppet is one of the three gift-giving animatronics, others include Sugar and Kitty FazCat.
  • The Puppet is the second FNAF animatronic that has the second least amount of appearances, with Spring Bonnie being first.
  • The Puppet and its mechanics are likely inspired by the popular Jack-in-the-box children's toy, due to the fact that it comes from a box, music precedes its attack, and it launches itself to attack.
  • The Puppet is believed to be sentient and sapient as Alison states that it is "always thinking".
  • The Puppet is the only animatronic who doesn't have footsteps, with the other being Lockjaw. Not including Hallucinations.
